After almost 20 years serving the LGBT community and after celebrating my 6th anniversary on 24 May 2009, the Saracens closed its doors to the public. Rumours will no doubt circulate so I felt it important to lay down the reasons behind this decision. Charles Wells who own the pub decided in the middle of 2008 to sell the venue and in November 2008 placed the property on the market for redevelopment purposes. This meant that the building will no longer be a pub when a buyer was found. I, along with some of my staff, did look at the possibility of purchasing the venue to allow it to continue, however in January 2009 I was approached to take over another much larger premises just round the corner. The deal for this was concluded and Mango opened in February 2009. The majority of the LGBT community that frequented the Saracens followed us to Mango and made this thier new home. Whilst Mango is not a venue aimed at the solely at the LGBT community, with me in charge it will remain focused on delivering equality and fairness and respect for the LGBT community in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and continue the integration of others into the fun and friendly environment we set out during my six years at the Saracens. A buyer for the Saracens has now been found and Charles Wells are in the process of the sale. No official date has been given and the venue is available for hire in the meantime, so please feel free to email me on the button below if you wish to do so. On behalf of all of the staff who have worked with me over the years and from myself, I would like to say it has been an honour to work here and a privilege to get to know many of your over the years. Remember though, the party continues at Mango. Kyle xx email for private functions by pressing the button below
